Farmers’ Market Finds
In photography terms ‘twilight’ is that special time between magic hour and nighttime. In terms of free samples of delicious artisan food and craft beer, ‘twilight’ refers to the magical evening market held at Mandeville Beer Garden in Downtown Sarasota. Sample Sarasota is held once a month and the free event showcases some of the area’s best food producers with the intention of helping people to connect to their food and community. These are some of the connections we’ve made so far.

The story of Brooklyn Biscuit Tortoni is, ultimately, a love story. “We met at a diner in New York,” says KC. “I was a waitress and he would come in every day and ask me questions as if it were a five star restaurant.” It was love at first sight,” Alan chuckles. We know that this must be true, because every time we try one of their nostalgic homemade desserts, it’s also love at first bite.

Pam Morro is a gardener, a traveler, a teacher, and an entrepreneur. Peacecorn Popcorn developed from Pam’s affinity for simple, healthy, and delicious food and her desire to grow the ingredients that would one day grow her business. Pam believes that you should know where your snacks come from, and what flavors them, and with this in mind she pops organic corn and flavors it with homegrown jalapeño, garlic, peppers, and other natural goodies.

Chef Dana Johnson attended school at Manatee Technical College where he now gives back by teaching culinary classes. Dana has been baking for 16 years and his passion is evident when he discusses his delectable creations such as the best selling Mexican Hot Chocolate Brownie or the exceptionally tasty Gluten-Free Peanut Butter Cookie. He also loves the sensory experience of baking bread, which he calls a guessing game.

Sher’s Chocolate Sauce

Carol Sher’s great-uncle owned a soda fountain and candy store in Utica, New York, in the 1940s and ’50s and he would often make batches of homemade chocolate syrup for his lucky family. Lucky for us she found the handwritten recipe and began making her own version. Sher has expanded her repertoire to include Mint Chocolate Syrup and Hard-Shell Dipping Chocolate made from coconut oil. All of these treats are all natural, vegan, and really, really, yummy.

Chef Fatima Soriano hails from Spain’s Canary Islands and she prepares artisan Spanish cuisine with love. She considers feeding people from her heart using 100% natural ingredients and infusing her food with the flavors and fun of her homeland to be a calling. Fatima samples her gourmet chutneys and dips at farmers’ markets and offers her personal chef services for authentic Spanish dinner parties for up to 18 people. Olé!

Alexis Robbins is throwing a tea party at a farmers’ market near you. She designs and blends her own tea line called CreaTeavity and uses both an Eastern and a Western tea importer. Her award-winning teas are aromatic and unique and she is passionate about bringing people together over a good pot of tea. The variety of colorful loose-leaf teas and the stunningly beautiful flowering teas that adorn her booths put us in the mood to join Alice and the Mad Hatter in Wonderland.
